Remember, the new standard pace of play at the Club is 4 hours or less. Ensure you are playing matches in 4 hours or less or are keeping up with the group in front of you if the pace of the golf course is slower than that.
If you play before 830am or 9am, the expectation for pace is likely closer to 3 hrs 40 mins to 3 hrs 50 mins. So, it may be best to avoid really early morning tee times for Beaver Cup matches. Because we are wearing team shirts, some asshole members are likely to complain about our pace of play even if our groups are not out of position with the group in front of them. Its better to just avoid these type of situations.
Remember, this is a FUN event. Try to play well and win your match, but more importantly have a fun round and ensure you are maintaining good pace of play and are not out of position with the group in front of you.
Things you can do to ensure pace of play:
– Give putts. If you want to see a guy miss a 16 inch putt to win a hole or match, this is not the event for you.
– Read your putts while others are putting so you are ready to putt when it is your turn. Don’t pace off the length of your putt.
– Be ready to hit when it is your turn, checking yardage/wind, selecting club, taking practice swings can be done will others are playing.
– When it is safe to do so, walk about ahead and stand off to the side near your ball so you can get to it quicker after other players hit.
– Don’t take more than 3 minutes to look for a ball. By rule, 3 minutes is the new allowable time to search for a ball. 3 minutes is not very long. If you don’t find it in 3 minutes or less, play the new E5 rule – take two penalty shots and drop a ball in the fairway no nearer to the hole.
– If you are out of the hole, pick up.
BTW, if your ball lands in what is clearly a footprint in a bunker, you can place it as close as possible to that spot not in a footprint.
